Neue Szenen

an der Deutschen Oper

A co-production of the Deutsche Oper Berlin

and the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“

In April 2013 the Deutsche Oper Berlin in collaboration with the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” commissioned and premiered three short operas by Evan Gardner, Stefan Johannes Hanke, and Leah Muir as part of the “Neue Szenen” [New Scenes] International Composition Competition led by Prof. Wolfgang Rihm. Inspired by this collaboration Evan Gardner founded Opera Lab Berlin, a collective of young singers and instrumentalists under the direction of Prof. Manuel Nawri that has since created its own productions of contemporary musical theatre.
